Panis is delighted to present photographies by Claire de Foucauld and Flower Paintings by David Roth.

Both artists‘ work is about taking stock, recording the here and now, that indeed is an altered now mere seconds later. Guided by the idea their journey might lead to something interesting, but without a (predefined) plan, yet wide-awake and responsive to what they might encounter.

In his Flower paintings David Roth further extends his foray into working with flowers, however not employing them as a sujet but as his instruments. Used as paintbrushes, they become part of the painting process. The flowers’ varying character and texture leave behind marks and shapes that surprise us, some appearing anarchical, some poetical. Soaked in paint, conducted over canvas or paper with sweeping moves, David Roth lets the flowers draw a portrait of the painting instruments‘ physiognomy. Certain circumstances bring forth certain paintings.

Certain circumstances and moments are what Claire De Foucauld captures with her camera. Analog – no examining the pictures seconds after releasing the shutter, no pressure to constantly browse the photographs taken. One shot – one opportunity. De Foucauld‘s photographs let us take a poetic breath of a world in plain view, that often escapes us. The seemingly trivial or inconspicuous appears for an instant, then quickly passes from view again.

This presentation is a dialogue between two artists, differing in the form and media they employ, but whose attitude towards art corresponds.
